How Cluing Skills Work

Skill = the workflow Topic = the knowledge behind it

Written by Nemanja Trtica

Every Skill in Cluing has two layers: the instructions that tell your agent what to do, and the knowledge that helps it do the job right.

The instructions live in the Skill. The knowledge lives in a connected Topic.

Together, they give your agent a workflow and the context to run it — every time, without you rewriting a prompt from scratch.

1. Instructions layer

This defines the workflow your agent should follow.

For example:

  • How to write SEO articles

  • How to analyze customer interviews

  • How to prepare competitor research

  • How to review product feedback

You create these instructions once, and reuse them whenever you need that workflow.

2. Knowledge layer

The knowledge behind your Skill lives in Topics.

Topics can include:

  • Saved web pages

  • PDF documents

  • LinkedIn, Reddit, and X posts

  • YouTube videos

  • Notes and comments

  • Research insights from your team

This gives your agent the context it needs to produce better results.
